The technology behind this desktop wifi adapter

Increased Efficiency with OFDMA, Make Latency A Thing of The Past

  • The Wi-Fi 6 standard uses OFDMA for increased efficiency. Imagine your WiFi connection as a series of delivery trucks delivering data packets to your devices. With 802.11ac WiFi, each delivery truck or “packet” could only deliver one parcel to one device at a time. But with OFDMA, each truck can deliver multiple parcels to multiple devices simultaneously. This vast improvement in efficiency works for both uploads and downloads.

  • WiFi 6 wireless network adapter comes with orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) to divide a wireless channel into a large number of subchannels. Each of these subchannels can provide faster data speeds while carrying the data intended for different devices. Moreover, the WiFi access points on the upcoming WiFi 6 can stay connected or talk to even more devices at once.

  • As we mentioned, WiFi 6 pcie card gets its speed boost because it combines and operates across both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz simultaneously. This is made possible using the improved multiple in/multiple out (MIMO) standard. Until WiFi 5, although access points were able to talk to multiple devices simultaneously, those devices connected to the network couldn’t respond at the same time. WiFi 6 wifi adapter addresses this issue and comes with an improvised multiuser MIMO that allows devices to respond to access points simultaneously. MU-MIMO technology will also be enabled for the uplinking of data along with the downlink data it already supports.

  • WiFi 6 comes with a 1024 quadrature amplitude modulation mode (1024-QAM), which increases the throughput. This helps the devices connected with WiFi 6 bandwidth to have better stability even in bandwidth-intensive use cases or applications.

  • WiFi 6 is also expected to be future-ready in terms of security. Last year, WiFi standards received a huge upgrade in terms of security with WPA 3. WPA3 makes it very difficult for hackers to brute force into networks using WiFi as a medium. All WiFi 6-enabled devices are likely to be certified with the WPA 3 security standard, making them secure.

  • Incredibly Smooth Gameplay, Lower latency is essential to gaming success. Revolutionary OFDMA reduces lag by up to 75%. Enjoy ultra-responsive real-time gaming or immersive VR experiences.

160 MHz Channel Width

  • Wi-Fi 6 expands the WiFi band from 80 MHz to 160 MHz, doubling the channel width and creating a faster connection from your router to the device. With Wi-Fi 6, you can enjoy 8K movies, large file downloads and uploads, and responsive smart home devices – all without buffering.

  • With 160 MHz channels, we get the fastest Wi-Fi yet, delivering multi-gigabit low latency connections. These high throughput connections are essential to supporting 5G services indoors where mmWave signals can’t reach. Multi-gigabit Wi-Fi essentially acts as an indoor hotspot, seamlessly supporting 5G services in dense indoor environments.

  • Benefits are not restricted to 160 MHz connections. OFDMA allows Wi-Fi systems to partition channels into smaller subchannels, allocating the appropriate amount of spectrum to each connected device to deliver optimal quality of service and user experience. Wi-Fi 6 routers with 160 MHz capability will provide significant benefits even when connected to devices using smaller bandwidths.

  • There are currently two 160 MHz channels available in the U.S., but both are shared with Wi-Fi devices that use smaller bandwidths (e.g., 20 and 40 MHz). Like a bicycle on the highway, these users can slow down all traffic, including 160 MHz transmissions, thereby reducing overall network capacity. These two channels simply do not represent enough spectrum to serve a dense environment with many competing devices.

  • Devices must also sense and avoid radars in order to use these 160 MHz channels through a process known as Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS). While routers have successfully used DFS for many years to access this spectrum, regulatory requirements have limited the ability of mobile devices to operate as access points in these bands. This means that consumers are unable to connect peripheral devices, such as AR/VR glasses, to their gigabit-capable mobile devices on a 160 MHz channel.

  • Interference from your neighbors’ wireless networks can cause issues with your wireless signal. BSS (Base Service Station) Color, marks frames from neighboring networks so that your router can ignore them. If you’ve ever lived in an apartment or close to your neighbors, this means that your router just became that much more efficient – no extra work required.

  • As well as the multi-user OFDMA support, 11ax introduces another feature that increases the efficiency of high-density network deployments where a large number of access points are operating in a limited area. In this situation, access point Basic Service Sets (BSSs) can overlap when using the same channel, leading to wireless contention and interference problems. The 11ax standard implements a “color code” for each BSS that is transmitted in the signal preamble, enabling clients to detect when transmissions are from an overlapping BSS. In an enterprise network, the ability to detect each BSS color code enables clients and access points to set specific signal-detection thresholds and transmit power levels, which provides better management of contention and interference. The result is an improvement in overall network performance and a more efficient use of spectrum resources.
